Meeting January 27 on improvements to Times Plaza, required by environmental review

On Wednesday, January 27 at 6:30 pm, a workshop will be held at the YWCA Brooklyn, 30 Third Avenue, to discuss the redesign of Times Plaza--the small triangle in between Atlantic, Flatbush, and Fourth avenues, "to create an enhanced, permanent public space."

This work was actually announced in June 2014, as part of an open space improvement identified in the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for Atlantic Yards.

I was skeptical, because the formal justification was to "address the prolonged impact on the passive worker ratio in the non-residential study area"--in other words, to give workers somewhere to go, with the addition of seating, plantings and other open space amenities.

But there's understandably significant general public interest in making this space more welcoming, and contributing to safer streets. Note the role of developer Greenland Forest City Partners and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
